Empowerment course in Lithuania PDF Print E-mail
On 16th of March 2009 Social Innovation Fund (SIF) has initiated the national empowerment course for migrants living in Lithuania. The content of the course has been developed earlier together with the trainers’ network and was based on the needs of the migrants expressed during the personal sessions within migrants’ centres. The basic problem faced by migrants is unemployment. During the survey, they emphasized the lack of computer literacy skills, what is highly important in labour market in our days.  At the same time, migrants expressed their wish to acquire competences in job seeking, especially using Internet and applying for it.  Based on migrants’ survey information, Social Innovation Fund has developed the special training course consisting of two main parts: group and private counselling, assisting migrants to realize their own potentials, to state goals, to design a plan how to achieve them and providing them information about labour market, social system, education possibilities, healthcare system in Lithuania; computer literacy course, which comprises the subjects requested by migrants: MS Office, E-mail, Internet, Skype software. The participants have been divided into 2 groups, each of 10 persons.  The migrant learners found the above-mentioned training very useful and with perspective of fastening their integration into Lithuanian society and labour market.
